Evolution of the Brazos/Colorado System
Incised Valleys

Seismic Line R90-9 crosses the Stage 2 incised valley of the ancestral Brazos River, which is filled almost entirely with fluvial deposits. The final episode of sedimentation in the valley is marked by acoustically laminated deposits that are interpreted as oxbow lake deposits. Line 5 crosses the incised Colorado River valley and illustrates the chaotic fill (seismic facies) that characterizes the valley. Platform borings through the valley sampled sand and gravel and a single core from the valley sampled coarse sand and gravel.
