Sand Bodies
Fluvial Sheet Sands

Offshore of West Florida, the shelf is steep and sandy. Most of the rivers of the area are high-relief, bedload-dominated rivers During falling stages of sea level, these rivers produce braided fluvial sheet sands that extend across an extensive portion of the inner shelf. During transgression these sheet sands are reworked by coastal processes to produce an overlying transgresive sheet sand, the Mafla sheet sand.
