Incised Valleys
Western Louisiana Shelf

Incised fluvial valleys represented one of the most widespread and volumetrically important reservoir-scale sand bodies on the shelf, especially on the Louisiana and east Texas shelves. The map of the western Louisiana shelf that was generated by Berryhill and his colleagues illustrates this point. The valleys shown on this map actually includes highstand channels and lowstand valleys, but they occur at approximately the same stratigraphic level. These valleys have similar cross-sectional profiles, illustrated in the profile across the Trinity Valley in Galveston Bay.
